“Ella” is one of my three biggest house favourites of this year after Jimpster’s “Burning Up” and Shur-i-kan’s “State of Emergency” – all three comes from the common Birtish deep house family: two of them released on Freerange Records, while “Ella” – on sister label Delusions of Grandeur.
Austin Ato’s “Ella/Putting It In My Way” makes the perfect addition to the Delusions of Grandeur’s carefully selected back catalogue: this is great double A-Side for the house music lovers. “Ella” is an ecstatic eight-minute disco groover that won’t leave anyone calm on a dance floor: a filtering disco loop, synth melody, string stabs, all reinforced by punchy drums and that all important vocal chop. A simple recipe for a track when cooked up in the right way with love, passion and experience.
Austin Ato from Scotland has been making waves the last couple of years having had well received releases on Futureboogie and Phonica White. This year he has delivered remixes for Folamour on Classic, Balako on Greco Roman and an EP for Man Power’s label Me Me Me. A name, you should watch in today’s house music.
