Mr. G – G’s Juiced Up? EP (No Idea’s Original) 8/10

Colin McBean, one of the most prolific UK’s producers currently, is back with the second EP of 2017 – following up his last year’s LP and releases on Midnight Shift, Warm Sounds, Relative, Defected and his own Phoenix G imprint. Mr. G is just unstoppable. ‘G’s Juiced Up?’ will be a fourth release of Huxley’s No Idea’s Original.

Opener track ‘Can’t Stop?’ with its thumping bassline has a 90’s rave feel and reminds of Shamen’s cuts a bit. Next up is the best piece on the EP ‘4am NYC Downlow (TS Version)’: it has a subtle melody, distorted female moaning vocals and different hats patterns serving as a driven force. ‘Make Me Mad’ and ‘Make Me Dub!’ starts with a fade-in and ends with a fade-out in a typical Mr. G manner. These are minimalistic with a spooky bass line, moody hook and crunchy percussions with old school claps.
